Robyn Streisand on the ROI of Love: Creating a Climate of Acceptance Inside a Brand
When I think about how I manage to foster acceptance, whether it is at my company or with a brand, I keep coming back to one thing: the ROI of love. It sounds easy enough, but it does take work. The key is understanding that company cultures and partnerships are a microcosm of relationships, where love is the strong and stable foundation. On top of that, it takes care, compassion and commitment, from both the leaders and the staff, to foster these relationships into the kind that is accepting of all.
When Partnering with Brands
When we partner with brands specifically, it is the quality of the relationship that is at the core of our success. I look to work with executives who are interested in taking the time to develop and build trust, which will ultimately allow for open dialogue and safe spaces. We win business when there is chemistry and synergy, and that takes the kind of care and compassion for each other that I mention above. When there is a solid foundation and company cultures are aligned, all of the moving parts come together.
Building Titanium
It was a very similar process when we built Titanium. All of our partner agencies were rigorously vetted, they had to be subject matter experts in their fields, and they had to bring their own individuality in order for us to create something different… something special. Diversity is perspective; and it was fascinating to see it all come together. Titanium became unlike anything we could have done on our own, it was better. Thus, it became the inspiration for our tagline: Bold Alone. Brilliant Together.
Being Open-Minded
After 25 years of doing this at The Mixx, and now seven years at Titanium, we are able to bring a light to today’s realities for our clients. Brands are looking at the climate we are in, and are trying to figure out how to navigate it. Many are scared, and they feel threatened. It is scary, because the bar is high, and they have to be open to making the changes needed. A brand can either default to the legacy way of doing things or they can work to see their blind spots and uncover what is possible.
The good news is that there are many changes going on, and we at Titanium are very excited for all of it. It is happening because there are those like us out there who care, are open-minded, look at the glass as half-full and are not willing to settle for what is. Titanium stands behind innovation, creating change and providing solutions so that our clients can progress in the direction we all want to go…forward.
The Take Away
Here is my advice if you are looking to do this within your own company: start by looking at things from a different perspective, create an open dialogue and get behind an integrated team that collaborates with one another. That means working with people from different backgrounds, who are innately inquisitive and are good listeners. Come with an open mind (by clearing it and being able to listen) and be ready and willing to work from a white piece of paper so that you can walk out of the room with something you did not know. This takes commitment and hard work. Sometimes that means doing things that are uncomfortable; but the return you will get from all of the love you put in will be worth it in the end. Your company will become a place where people will want to be. Afterall, companies are nothing without its people.
